I don’t know anyone who loves cleaning their bathroom — especially “deep cleaning.” It’s just a yucky and time consuming job, which causes a lot of people to put it off. Why can’t our bathrooms always be clean with just a little bit of work?? Wait — they can? Actually, these 8 daily tips will help you ensure than the answer is a resounding YES!
1. Empty the Trash
Yep, every day. Even if you just dump it into the larger can in the kitchen, make a habit of keeping that bathroom garbage can clear. Why? It’ll help keep the can itself clean and stink-free, and that lends itself to an overall clean bathroom.
2. Keep Towels Dry
Ever reach for your towel after your shower and find that it’s still damp from yesterday? Not only does it make your drying experience less effective, but that moisture can make your towels stinky — fast. Aside from washing them regularly, make a habit of tossing bath and hand towels in the dryer every night for just 5-7 minutes. You’ll ensure they’re dry for you tomorrow, and you’ll keep the moisture away — so you can actually wash them less often.
3. Wash, Then Spray
After you’re done washing yourself (or especially your dog) in the tub or shower, take a minute to spray it down (especially the glass) with a 1-to-1 vinegar/water mix. If your shower has natural stone, don’t use the vinegar, but simply squeegee off the excess water before you get out.
4. Air it Out
Every time you shower or bathe, use your exhaust fan. If you don’t have a fan, open the window — even in winter. If you have neither, leave the door open a crack when you can, or fan it back and forth after you get out. The enemy to a clean bathroom is excess water and steam, because it creates mildew. Anything you can do to dry it out will keep your bathroom cleaner.
5. Dust & Vacuum
Vacuum (or sweep) or dust floors and other surfaces in your bathroom every day. Does it seem like a lot of work? Well, then your bathroom is definitely bigger than mine! Really, in a small area like that it’ll only take you a few minutes. Think of how much better your bathroom will look without dust, hair, or powders on the floor and counter. It can’t hurt to keep a dust mop in your bathroom or in a hall closet, just for this purpose. And if you have a robotic vacuum, this is a fantastic use for it.
6. Don’t Let the Toilet Go
I know, it’s gross. Nobody likes cleaning the toilet. But if you spend 90 seconds on it daily (okay, this one you can do 2-3 times per week), it’ll never become the moldy mess you keep procrastinating. Am I right? Just do it. It’ll always be clean for guests.
7. Multi-Task
While you’re brushing your teeth, get some hot water and swish out the sink. Or wipe the counter, even with a damp piece of tissue if that’s what’s handy. In the 2 minutes you use to brush, your bathroom could look much cleaner.
8. Shine it Up
Another thing to do while brushing your teeth or right before putting on your makeup is to wipe down the mirror and faucet. Get some wipes meant for this purpose, and it’ll only take 30 seconds to do both.
