I don’t know about you, but I love to stay cozy indoors during the winter. One of my favorite ways to do that is to keep the heat on low and then wear warm clothes, while using blankets. Plus, this also saves on money! Here are some tips on how to cut your heating bill.
How To Cut Your Heating Bill
Double check the weather stripping around your home and replace any that is worn or old. This will help keep the warm air in and cold air out, helping you save money in the process!
Put draft blockers on windows and doors to prevent drafts from coming into your home! There are actually a lot of cute ones that you can use!
Make sure to adjust door threshold so that they’re tight and seal the warm air in. If you can see daylight underneath your door, then you’re definitely losing warm air.
I bet you didn’t know that you can use bubble wrap on windows for more insulation! You just press it up against the window and it helps prevent warm air from escaping through the glass.
You can also use plastic film on windows and glass doors to keep warm air in. Just press it up against the glass, smooth it out, and you have an added layer of insulation!
Consider using a portable heater and in your home. Turn down the furnace, and use a space heater instead to help save a bit on your heating this winter.
Have you ever heard of chimney balloons before? You put them in your chimney and it helps prevent warm air from escaping. It’s a great way to cut down on your heating bill!
If you have an attic, it’s definitely a good idea to insulate the attic door. You’d be surprised at how much warm air leaks out and how much cold air comes through an insulated attic door and entrance.
For those of you with a fireplace, use it this winter! That’s a fun and easy way to make your home warmer without having to turn up the heat at all!
An old thermostat can cause you all sorts of problem and really raise your heating bill. If you haven’t in a while, upgrade the thermostat so you can save money! My favorite is the Nest!
If it’s sunny, open the blinds to let the sun warm up your home. Late morning and early afternoon are prime hours to let the sun heat up your home. So if it’s sunny, then open the blinds!
However, make sure you keep them shut if it’s overcast or dark outside. If you don’t keep the blinds shut, you’ll just lose heat through the window because more cold air will seep through than warm air.
I hope these tips on how to cut your heating bill help you!

The opening the blinds will only help if the windows are old. Newer windows have the option for Low-E Argon gas between glass panes which stops heat transference.
