Laminate flooring is fantastic, and the look and feel of it has come a long way in recent years. It really does a good job of mimicking wood, but it’s also really durable. If you’ve ever wondered about the best way to clean your own laminate flooring, then this post is for you! Here are some easy ways to go about it.
1. Skip the Broom
Traditional brooms just leave too much behind, and that creates a problem when you mop with moisture. What you need for your laminate floor is a good dust mop or a vacuum cleaner that won’t scratch (go for one where you can turn off the brush roller).
2. Skip the Special Cleaners
You don’t really need a special type of cleaner for your laminate flooring. If you have a brand you love already, keep on using it. But you can actually use most floor cleaners, or try some of the many DIY solutions for cleaning floors.
3. Laminate Doesn’t Love Moisture
Too much moisture can seep in between the laminate boards and cause swelling, which is permanent damage. Any time your floor gets wet, whether from spills or mopping, get that moisture up as soon as possible. When you mop, use quick-dry mopping methods such as spritzing the floor with cleaner and then using your mop to clean one section at a time. Your floor should really be dry within a couple of minutes of mopping.
4. Buff to a Shine
There’s nothing like the look of a freshly-mopped laminate floor, especially if you take a few extra minutes to buff it dry with a clean, dry towel (cloth diapers work great). This will remove excess moisture and make your floor look amazing.
