It’s smart not to make any guarantees where drawers are concerned. They can get messy quick, for a lot of little reasons {kids, anyone?}. So if you’re armed with the 5 easy steps to declutter all your drawers, getting them back under control doesn’t take long at all.

  1. Start by emptying the drawer of its contents. This means everything in the drawer comes out. If we’re talking about a dresser drawer, just dump the clothes on your bed. If necessary, wipe the drawer out so its clean and ready for organizing.
  2. Sort through the contents of the drawer. Decide what to toss, what to give away, and what to keep. If there’s anything in there that shouldn’t be, transfer it to its designated spot in the house.
  3. Once you’re left with the things you’re keeping, decide how you want to organize them. An easy way to do this is by categorizing the contents of the drawer. Group like things together.
  4. Plan how you want to put the drawer back together. If you need drawer organizers to help, make a quick trip to Dollar Tree for inexpensive boxes or make your own from cardboard. Keep in mind that your most-used items should live in the front of the drawer for convenience. Least-used items belong in the back, with everything else in between.
  5. Place your organizers inside the drawer and add the categorized items back in. Play around with it as needed to find the best fit.
