All pet lovers know that no matter how good your pet is, there will inevitably be some point when your pet leaves you a lovely pet stain. There are lots of commercial products that work on pet stains, but today we’re focusing on natural products to clean pet stains. Why natural? Because we’re all for limiting your family’s and pet’s exposure to harmful chemicals. If there are natural products that do the job, that’s the best option.
Natural Products to Clean Pet Stains
One natural way to clean pet stains is probably located right in your kitchen pantry. Have you got baking soda and white vinegar? You’re set!
- First use some paper towels to blot the pet stain until it is dry.
- Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on the pet stain, until it is very wet.
- Use a microfiber cloth to scrub the stain, working the vinegar deep into the carpet fibers.
- While the stain is still damp, sprinkle baking soda liberally over the top of the carpet. Spray some additional vinegar and water over the baking soda, until it starts to fizz.
- Give the mixture time to sit and work on the pet stain.
- After the baking soda has dried out {it may take until tomorrow!} get out the vacuum and vacuum up all traces of the baking powder.
Why does this natural combination work to clean pet stains? The vinegar neutralizes the acids in the pet stain, clearing out the odor. And we don’t want lingering pet odors in your carpet because your pet will go there again if he can smell previous stains.
