Got company coming on a moment’s notice? You’d better start decluttering! Hosting a few friends and have had a crazy week at work? Whether you’ve got family coming by or have just been too busy to clean up, decluttering your home — fast — is sometimes a must. Here are some quick decluttering ideas you can use to whip things into shape. It’s time to declutter and organize!
1. Eliminate Odors
Get rid of anything that stinks. Take out the trash. Collect dirty laundry and start a load. Run the dishwasher.
2. Contain & Put Away
Setting a timer for this part can be helpful. Use a big, attractive basket to pick up items that don’t belong wherever they happen to be at the moment. Gather everything up first. Then, pay a quick visit to each room to put those items where they belong. Take care of the most noticeable things first, then do the rest if you have time. Even if each of the kids’ rooms has it’s own “stuff you need to put away” basket you just toss things into, that will help you get the living areas decluttered quickly.
3. Light Kitchen Cleaning
If you have time, run the vacuum in your gathering rooms. Sweep the kitchen floor. A must is to make sure everything on your kitchen counters that isn’t normally left out is put away. Then, spray and wipe down your counters, sink, and kitchen table. Don’t forget to check the dining chairs for crumbs.
4. Dust Furniture
Don’t worry about furniture in rooms your guests won’t see. Just take a microfiber cloth or duster and remove the visible dust from the coffee table, piano, TV stand, and electronic equipment that’s in sight.
