How To Clean Beams On The Ceiling: Dusting

Thankfully, because ceiling beams are located up and away from the main mess-gatherers in your home, they don’t need frequent cleaning. However, they do need regular dusting. Regular dusting of your ceiling beams helps maintain them and prolongs the time between deeper cleanings. Dust your ceiling beams monthly.

For any cobwebs that appear on your ceiling beams, a soft nylon or microfiber dusting brush is great at grabbing onto those sticky cobwebs. Use the brush on a telescoping handle to extend your reach from the floor as far as possible. Use care if you must step up on a ladder. If you have ceiling beams that could scratch, try a lamb’s wool duster instead of a soft nylon brush.

An easy way to dust ceiling beams with lamb’s wool is to use a lamb’s wool paint roller cover. Slide the cover over a paint roller with a long, telescoping handle. As you roll the lamb’s wool over the surfaces of your wood ceiling beams, the lamb’s wool will attract and grab onto dust and cobwebs. In case some dust falls, cover any furniture in the room with a drop cloth to protect it.

How To Clean Beams On The Ceiling: Cleaning

A more thorough cleaning of your ceiling beams needs to be done twice per year. Use drop cloths to cover up any furniture and floor coverings underneath.

  • Add warm water and wood soap to a paint roller pan, or a bucket wide enough for a paint roller to fit inside.
  • Cover a telescoping paint roller with a clean, dry lamb’s wood cover.
  • Dip the lamb’s wool into the cleaning solution.
  • Use the paint roller to “mop” the ceiling beams in the direction of the wood grain.
  • Make sure to roll over all exposed beam surfaces.
  • As the cleaning solution gets dirty, replace it with fresh water and wood soap.

Now you know how to clean beams on the ceiling. Once again, remember that regular dusting goes a long way, so add it to your monthly cleaning schedule.
