- Use wall mounts to add extra storage that looks great! You can use wire baskets or whatever other type of container you think looks and works best with your kids’ toys.
- A cubby system looks great, especially when it comes to toys and a kid’s room. It keeps things crisp, organized, and super neat looking.
- For all the sports balls that you have to store, use a bungee cord or two. Stretch them out vertically, store the balls behind them, and they stay behind it.
- Make magnetized shelves you can use to store small toys and trucks. It keeps them in their place without rolling off or around and making a mess.
- Use furniture as storage space. For example, tons of kid furniture gives you space to keep small things like a few stuffed animals, some books, or coloring supplies.
- Always label as much as you can when it comes to your kids’ toys. It helps you, your kids, and all your kids’ friends with keeping things nice and organized.
- Use cookie jars to store anything from art supplies to Legos. Cookie jars are a good choice because they’re big, clear, and pretty cheap. Choose a safer plastic version if your kids are still pretty young.
- Use bins in your kids’ closets and toy areas to keep things nice and organized. Not only do they keep the toys from being all over the floor, they’re also easy to organize.
- Invest in a toy chest that has your child’s name on it! This will get them excited to keep all their toys in one spot, plus it looks super cute.
- I love these cute toy pails that hold all sorts of things! The best part is that you can use this idea both inside and outside, so it’s super versatile!
- Use S hooks in the closet to add more storage space if you don’t have any more ground space. Simply hang them from the rod, attach a bin or container, and you’re good to go.
- Instead of storing puzzles in those bulky boxes, cut the front picture off and store it and all the pieces in bags or zipper pouches. This saves space and still lets you and your kids do puzzles.
- Take an old bean bag liner and use it to store stuffed animals. Isn’t that genius! You just stick the stuffed animals in the liner and it looks like a normal bean bag chair!
- Hang baskets from the walls to get some added storage. They look good, don’t take up any floor space, and allow you to put toys out of your children’s reach, if necessary.
- If you really don’t like your kids leaving toys all over the house, then designate a spot for them to play. Simply take tape, mark the spot off on the ground, and tell them that their toys can’t leave that line!
- Use a hanging shoe rack to store extra toys around the room. You can store small things like stuffed animals, cars, etc. It works well and is pretty cheap.
- Take an old piece of furniture and turn it into a Lego table. Pretty much, one end is used to store all the Legos and the other part is for playing with the Legos.
- Designate a specific spot in the closet for dress-up clothes, or simply make a separate rack for the clothes. Use labels as necessary to keep the costumes together.
- If your kids’ toys are in their bedroom, then add some under-the-bed storage to get the toys organized. It requires a bit of time or money to get it, but it’s totally worth it!
- Create a little hammock for all the stuffed animals to hang out on. Just attach the blanket to the walls, and add the stuffed animals to it. Super easy!!

Another great storage idea is the pails that ice cream come in. You can spray paint them then write on the either with permanent markers or making a chalk board area to place the name of what goes in it. This is great for something that they use often and can take outside in the yard, on the porch/deck to play with or to Grandma’s house for a visit. They are useful for crafts, traveling, etc. The sky’s the limit on the uses you can come up with.

Linda, I love this! It would be a really fun craft to do with the kids, and it repurposes those ice cream containers!
