Wax paper is one of those handy household tools that nobody should be without. You can probably think of a few uses for it in the kitchen, but what about the rest of the house? Wax paper can indeed make your life inside and outside the kitchen a lot easer. Just use these 10 hacks.
1. Make Closet Bars Glide
In your closet, if your bar is metal, you can rub it with wax paper to make hangers slide across more easily. A lot of clothing stores use this trick. You can do the same thing on shower curtain bars.
2. Paper Shredder
Is your shredding machine jamming a lot? Run some sheets of wax paper through it to lube it up.
3. Craft Puncher
This is the same principle as the paper shredder. If you have a craft puncher that sticks, use it several times on a piece of wax paper and the problem will be gone.
4. Get Crayon Out
Did some little munchkin get crayon on your carpet? Not to worry! Place some wax paper over the area and run a hot iron over it. It’ll come out much easier.
5. “Ice Skate”
Your kids will love this. Strap some wax paper to the bottom of each shoe, and you can practically ice skate over the carpet. Just be careful. 🙂
6. Lube Your Coat Zipper
Any zipper, actually. If it’s catching or giving you grief, rub some wax paper on it and it’ll slide much smoother.
7. Clean Your Iron
Iron got crud all over it from starch or — who knows what? Run it over some wax paper after every use while it’s still hot. It’ll clean it right up.
8. Melted Crayon Art
Warm up your electric griddle. Older kids can lay a piece of wax paper on top and draw on it with crayons. The heat will result in a really cool melted wax drawing.
9. Press Leaves
To make beautiful pressed fall leaves, place them between two pieces of wax paper and run a hot iron over them.
10. Sew Velcro & Vinyl
Most sewing machines don’t love velcro or vinyl. Next time you’ve got a Halloween costume to make that involves either one, lay some wax paper over the top when sewing, and the presser foot will slide over the top. The same trick works with vinyl!
