If you like a clean home but aren’t keen on chemicals, don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to clean your home without them. In fact, here are 10 homemade cleaner recipes for homemade cleaning products that work great and won’t harm your family.
1. Wood Cleaner
Mix together ¾ gallon water, 1/4 cup vinegar, 8 tablespoons liquid castile soap, and 30 drops of essential oil. Shake well and use on furniture or floors.
Window Cleaner
Mix 8 cups hot water, 1 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons of Dawn soap. This can be used on the inside or outside of your windows.
Drain Cleaner
Add together ½ cup baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar, and a kettle of boiling water. Pour all ingredients down the drain together and it will do a great job cleaning your drain.
4. Oven Cleaner
Take ¼ cup baking soda and add water to make a paste. Spread the paste anywhere on the inside of your oven that needs to be cleaned. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and then wipe it off– the gunk should come right off!
5. Stainless Steel
Give your stainless steel its shine back with this recipe! Add one part water and one part vinegar to a spray bottle. With a cloth lightly dipped in olive oil, spray the mixture onto the stainless steel and then rub it off.
6. Tub and Tile Cleaner
For a great tub and tile cleaner mix ½ cup baking soda, ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide, and 2 teaspoons of dish soap. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the cleaner on any dirty tubs or tiles, then scrub.
7. Leather
Mix 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup olive oil, and about 10 drops of essential oil (lemon or orange is ideal, but essential oil is actually optional). Use paper towels or a soft cloth to rub the cleaner into the leather, let it sit 20 minutes, then use clean ones to buff away any excess.
8. Garbage Disposal
Take vinegar, baking soda, rock salt, and ice, and dump them down your garbage disposal while it’s running, then flush with hot water. This will disinfect and deodorize the sink without having to spend any money on expensive cleaners!
9. Toilet Bowl
Mix 1 cup distilled (or boiled) water, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup castle soap, and 15-30 drops of essential oil (optional). Put everything in a squirt bottle and use it like you would use regular toilet cleaner. Squirt it under the rim and let it sit about 20 minutes before scrubbing. Store at room temperature and shake well before using.
10. Citrus Kitchen Cleaner
Take some citrus peels (orange, lemon, grapefruit), distilled white vinegar, and some water. In a glass jar, cover the peels with the vinegar and put on the lid. Let this sit for about 2 weeks, then strain out the peels. Dilute the resulting solution with an equal part water and pour into a spray bottle for regular use.
