Embrace a junk drawer! Have one in every room if you need to. It will become your best friend. This is a fast and easy way to keep your home clean, and keep all of the clutter and things you need to stash away quickly all in one place. It’s better to have everything in a drawer than it is to have it scattered all over your home.
When company is coming over and you need to clean in a hurry, don’t sweat the small stuff. Nobody said your house has to be perfect! Just clean quickly and don’t worry about small crumbs or pieces of dust in the corners or behind items. You can always get those later.
Make cleaning FUN! Yes, it is possible to have fun while you are cleaning. It’s all about your attitude! Just dance and smile and try to find fun ways you can spice up your cleaning routine. You’ll stop hating it and start looking forward to it.
Try to cut back and get rid of things you don’t use anymore. Stop saving things for ‘just in case’ and get rid of the things you don’t use any more. This will make your home cleaner without even having to try hard.
Clean as you go! If you cook in the kitchen, try to clean as you wait for things to finish cooking. If you’re in the bathroom and notice that the sink is a little dirty, give it a wipe down while you’re in there. This method will help you only spend about 5 or 10 minutes cleaning which will save you lots of time in the long run.
Make sure everything has an assigned place. When the members in your family know where things go after they are done using them. Everyone will be much more likely to put it where it belongs rather than leave it out.
Set a timer! You can choose just to clean for a small amount of time and try to speed clean quickly rather than have to take a ton of time out of your day to do so. It will help motivate you and you can make it a challenge to see how much you can get done in just a short amount of time.
Say goodbye to your paper clutter! Try to organize your papers to avoid build up with bills, magazines, coupons and important documents. Try to keep it all in one place and have it be organized.
Use Clorox wipes and Swiffer wipes to clean! It’s so much faster than breaking out all of your buckets, sponges, gloves, etc. which will take forever. Instead, just use fast cleaning products that will still clean but take you a fraction of the time.
If you hate cleaning, make the other members of your family pitch in too! Nobody said you had to do it all. If you break it up so everybody helps contribute you will get a lot done faster and have much less work to do.
Light some candles and play some good music while you clean. If your house smells good and sounds good while you clean, you will be in a better mood and enjoy it a little more!
Set aside 10 minutes every night to tidy up quickly. If you can sleep in a clean home and wake up to a clean home, it should make you feel more organized as a whole.
Overall, try to just develop good cleaning habits that will take you less time in the long run than it will to have to clean up a huge mess later on. Don’t try to overwhelm yourself with forming too many habits, because then they won’t stick. Just pick a few you can do at a time until you master them.
When you have finished a little cleaning (or you are half way there) take a little break and reward yourself! It can be your motivation to keep on cleaning, even when you don’t want to.
