Make a cleaning schedule so you don’t feel like you have to take a ton of time out of your schedule to clean. Breaking it up into lots of small jobs that just take a little bit of time will make it so much easier to keep your house clean.
Keep a place by your entryway where you can keep things temporarily when you walk in the house. It will help you stay clean by keeping your purse, mail, coat, keys, etc. all in one place rather than having everyone scatter their stuff around the house and on your kitchen counter tops.
Wash your dishes right after you finish eating. If you form this habit, you will only have to spend 5-10 minutes or less cleaning dishes rather than feeling like you have to tackle a pile that will take all day to do.
Try to space out your laundry so that it doesn’t pile up either. If you can do colors, whites, towels, and sheets on different days but keep it consistent, it will take you less time!
Set a timer and decide to dedicate a small amount of time to cleaning everyday! This is a fun and fast way to motivate yourself to speed clean rather than take all day doing it.
Make your bed everyday! Even if you accomplish nothing else during the rest of your day, you will feel so much better if you at least have a clean, made bed. It only takes a few minutes and you can do it right when you get out of bed in the morning.
Always put away your clothes when you after you try them on, or take them off. Clothes can make a home look messy so quickly. If you put them away immediately it will make a big difference. You can also put away seasonal clothes so you don’t have to rummage through too many clothes to find the exact item you want.
Get rid of stuff you have been holding on to for too long. If you have duplicates of items, get rid of them! Cutting back and simplifying will help you not have to spend as much time on cleaning everyday.
Have a reasonable amount of pillows and blankets on your couches or on your bed. This will help your home look less cluttered but also save you time from having to rearrange them all the time. On beds, pillows and blankets are taken on and off and will often get left on the floor if you don’t have a place to put them and it takes more time to make your home look nice.
Wipe down the counters in your home after you use them. This will help you avoid any build up and always help them stay nice and clean.
Keep papers in your home organized! Make sure you have things filed where they belong, and you have a system that helps you to organize the mail everyday. This will save time when you go to find documents later.
Never put anything on top of your bed. It can be tempting since it is a huge space that can easily function as a place to set things down. But you will find that it gets messy quickly, and require that you spend more time picking everything up later.
Try to vacuum once a week. Clean carpets can change everything! They look better, feel better, and even smell better. Get in the habit of vacuuming every week so that you don’t have to spend as much time attending to stains or deep cleaning later.
