Two things nobody wants in their home: mold and mildew. I mean really…there’s a reason why the last part of “mildew” is “ewwwww!” Lucky for all of us, our kitchen BFF baking soda (and her pal vinegar) is great at helping us get rid of these unwelcome and unhealthy substances. Here’s how to do it.
1. First, Baking Soda
Simple baking soda can kill mold and mildew. And best of all, it can do it without any toxic fumes or substances. Just ad 1/4 tablespoon baking soda to an average sized spray bottle (about 16 oz) and shake until dissolved. Then, spray the mold and use a cleaning brush or sponge to remove it. Once you’re done, rinse or wipe with a clean, damp rag. Repeat the spray again, but this time, let it air dry. This step will actually help keep mold from coming back.
2. Vinegar
Vinegar will actually kill 82% of mold species. If you have mold, your chances are good that vinegar will get rid of it. The mild acid simply kills it off. To use this method in your home, grab some white distilled vinegar and pour it right into a spray bottle — don’t dilute it. Spray the mold or mildew with the vinegar, and let it sit for 60 minutes. Then you can wipe it down with water and a damp rag. If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, it’ll fade in a few hours. You can also add some essential oils to it if you like.
3. For Tough Cases
If your particular mold or mildew doesn’t respond well to baking soda or vinegar alone, try using them both together. Make a paste and scrub it onto the affected area.

Is it just water in the spray bottle with the baking soda? How much water?
organizationjunk says
Yup! A quarter of a tablespoon of baking soda to warm/hot water. You just mix it until it’s dissolved.

It worked for me, and this is exactly how I did it, hope this helps…
Step 1 – First of all you need to get some baking soda and you’ll need some water as well.
Step 2 – Start to mix the baking soda and water (equal parts) until it forms into a paste.
Step 3 – Using a rag, cloth or sponge you need to apply the paste to the mold and leave it until it has dried.
Step 4 – Once it has dried you’ll need an old brush to scrub off the dried paste from the mold.
Step 5 – Then simply wipe away any remaining baking soda.
To try and stop the mould from growing again you can try mixing two tablespoons of baking soda and two cups of water into a spray bottle and spraying the effected area. There’s also some really good info here: https://www.mouldcleaningaustralia.com.au/black-mould/
