Dishwashers are more than a matter of convenience these days. I mean, who has time to hand wash their dishes every day? While this household must-have makes our lives easier, your dishwasher can also become a source of frustration when it doesn’t work properly or actually adds hassle to your life.
This trick is simple. Pour plain white vinegar into a dishwasher-safe measuring cup or bowl, and run a normal cycle. The vinegar will clear away grease, musty smells, and help with sanitization.
2. Keep Smaller Things Contained
We all have things like small lids or kids’ dishes that tend to fall through the racks of the dishwasher. There’s not always an ideal spot for these things, but you can create one with a small mesh laundry bag. Fill the bag with those small items and place it on the top rack. Problem solved!
3. Remove Stains With Lemon
Lemon contains a lot of citric acid, which is ideal for removing stains and getting your dishes cleaner. Harnessing this power is as simple as pouring a packet of lemonade mix in with your detergent. It’ll help clean your dishwasher, too!
4. Secure Glassware Easily
Sick of your glassware wobbling around on the tines of the dishwasher? Want to make sure those expensive glasses don’t break? To secure them, wrap a rubber band around the outside of the glass and the adjacent tines.
5. DIY Dish Tabs
Dishwasher tablets are super convenient, but they aren’t cheap. Good thing you can make your own with a few household ingredients.
6. Shine it Up With…
Furniture polish! I discovered this trick myself when my new stainless refrigerator came with a sample of “stainless steel polish.” This special polish looked and smelled just like lemon Pledge. So when I ran out of the sample, I bought a cheap dollar store knock-off of lemon Pledge to clean my stainless…and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used. So to shine up your stainless dishwasher, reach for the furniture polish!
