Holiday stains can be no joke, because anything from chocolate to red wine can be tough to get out. What about spilled eggnog? You may not think spilled eggnog is such a big deal, but because of the eggs and dairy proteins in it, eggnog makes a tough stain. When the spill happens, grab some paper towels and use them to absorb as much of the eggnog from the carpet as you can. Don’t rub it in, just use the paper towels to blot the stain until excess eggnog is gone.
- Use cool water to help dilute the remaining stain left in the carpet. Don’t soak the carpet.
- Again use clean paper towels to blot the stain and remove excess moisture.
- Mix two cups warm water with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of an enzymatic laundry detergent in a spray bottle.
- Apply the mixture to the stain and allow it time to penetrate and break up the proteins in the stain.
- After 10-15 minutes, use a clean white cloth to blot the stain.
- Repeat until the stain disappears.
Remove Spilled Eggnog from Clothing
The quicker you get to the eggnog stain, the easier it is to remove. If you’re out, use cool water to rinse away as much of the stain as you can until you get home. Once home, follow these steps:
- Dissolve a little enzymatic laundry detergent in cool water in the sink.
- Submerge the stained item in this solution, and leave it to soak for about 30 minutes.
- After soaking, launder the item as usual, using the same enzymatic detergent in the washing machine.
- Don’t toss it in the dryer until the stain is gone. If necessary, repeat steps until it disappears.
