Cleaning tools and cleaning products are an expense that can add up. For cleaning and organizing, however, have you ever thought of visiting estate sales? If you hit a good sale, there are all kinds of cleaning tools you can find on the cheap. Here is a list of what you can look for at your next estate sale outing.
1. Straw Brooms
These are great, effective brooms that are getting harder and harder to find these days. Whether it’s an indoor or outdoor style, if you happen on one, grab it. Beat it a little and give it a quick clean before you use it. The stiff bristles make these brooms super useful.
2. Floor Sweepers
They don’t make these like they used to. Remember these pushable cleaners that pick up crumbs, hair, and more? They’re great for hard floors or low-profile ruts. The ones made in the 50s and 60s tend to last forever.
3. Cleansers or Dryer Sheets
Powdered cleaners like Borax, OxiClean, Comet, and Barkeepers Friend don’t expire. If you find them cheap at an estate sale or thrift store, grab them. If you find a really old one, it’s probably even a collectible.
4. Metal Dust Pans
The old metal ones are way better than the plastic ones you usually find today. You can’t always find them in stores, so when you see them second-hand, it’s a good idea to grab it. Even if you find a new one, the old ones are usually better; they’ll last you forever.
5. Wicker Laundry Baskets
Wicker baskets look better and function better than plastic ones. You may find a wicker gem at your next estate sale, so bring it home as one of your cleaning tools if you can.
6. Wooden Hangers
Wooden hangers can be had second-hand for as cheap as 25 cents each. They’re awesome for hanging heavy coats, and they last forever. Declutter your closet and get rid of your modern plastic hangers, which break much easier than the old wooden kind. You can even paint them and dress them up a little.
