Sometimes the key to an organization problem is simpler than we imagine. For example, magnetic strips can help you keep a myriad of things together and out of the way, and all you have to do is hang the strip in the wall or inside a cupboard door. Let’s take a look at 10 things you can organize with these miracle tools.
1. Bobby Pins
At our house, bobby pins tend to get thrown into the junk drawer, where they get lost or stuck in between the drawer bottom and sides. No bueno! If you have bobby pins making a mess in a drawer or medicine cabinet, simply install some magnetic tape. You’ll never lose them or vacuum them up again. Boo-yah.
2. Mark Your Place
Nothing is more frustrating when you sit down to read your favorite book — finally — and can’t find your place. Make some cute bookmarks out of magnetic tape and washi tape, and you’ll have place markers that stay put.
3. Toy Car Keeper
Oh man, how I wish I’d seen this when my son was little. All those toy cars just ended up thrown into a big bin. With magnetic strips, they can be put on display anywhere, so your kids can find just the one they want. And they won’t be all over the floor because they’re so easy to put away! Double score!
4. Bobbins
If you sew, you have bobbins. Instead of throwing them in a drawer or box, put them on a magnetic strip and see everything you have at once.
5. Knives
If you’re sick of knives sitting on the counter in a knife block, install a magnetic strip near where you usually prepare food. Your knives will be safely out of the way and off the counter.
6. Scissors
You might have several types of scissors in your home. For paper, for sewing, for the kitchen, for the kids. Whether you have 3 pair or 13, you can keep them all on a magnetic strip.
7. Mason Jars
Mason jars are a big ‘thing’ these days. You can keep everything in them, from dry kitchen goods to office supplies. Install a magnetic strip under a cupboard, in the office, or on the wall of the garage and you’ll have a handy place to stick ’em.
8. Tools
I don’t know about you, but in our house, whenever a tool like a wrench, paintbrush, or screwdriver gets brought inside for a little project, it has a hard time finding its way back to the garage. And even then, it’s tough to find it for the next job. Install a long magnetic strip in your garage, and those tools will be easy to put away every time — so they’ll always be found.
9. Spices
You might have seen this on Alton Brown‘s show Good Eats, but every time he opened his spice cupboard (camera waiting inside, of course), you could see his magnetic spice rack, with every jar lined up and ready for action.
10. Jewelry in View
Got a mess of tangled necklaces? Hang a magnetic strip and use them to suspend necklaces neatly. You can even add washi tape to make it fit your decor.
