Your microwave should be getting some love and caring at least once a month, if not more. It depends on how often you use your microwave, but at the very least, you should clean it every month. Stick some vinegar in a bowl, run the microwave, and then wipe it down. The vinegar eats away at any baked on food.
You should also be cleaning your dishwasher every month. You can buy some chemical cleaners to run through your machine, or you can more of a natural approach. Two good ideas are to put some vinegar in a cup in the top rack and run the dishwasher or add some lemon Kool-Aid to the soap dispenser and run your dishwasher. Only use lemon Kool-Aid, as it contains citric acid that eats away at soap scum and hard water.
A stinky garbage disposal is the worst, so make sure you’re cleaning it once a month, or whenever you notice an unpleasant odor! Just put some lemon, ice, and salt down the drain, run it, and it will help to sharpen your disposal blades while freshening your kitchen.
While your bedding should be washed about every week, your mattress needs to be cleaned at least every month. Make a mixture of baking soda and essential oil. Tea tree works great, as does Thieves! Next, use a sifter to get it over the mattress, let it sit for a few hours, and then vacuum.
Switch plates are something that we all use but often overlook or completely ignore when it comes to cleaning. You should probably be cleaning this more frequently (especially if you have little kids with dirty hands), but make sure to wipe them down at least once a month. Magic Erasers are great for removing gunky buildup!
I bet you haven’t really ever thought about cleaning your garbage cans, have you? It’s a good idea to wash them down (you could spray them down with a hose outside), dry them out, and add some baking soda or something else at the bottom of it to keep it from getting stinky.
You wouldn’t think that washing machines need to be cleaned (since that’s what they do), but you actually should! You can buy some chemical cleaners from the store or find a few more natural cleaners that you can find online. Or, you can run a cup of vinegar through a regular cycle for more of a natural clean.
I absolutely hate cleaning blinds, but it’s a chore that needs to be done. Use an old sock to dust between the blinds, and then wipe down with a mixture of vinegar and water. Tip: If you clean your blinds at least once a month, it makes a huge difference!
Try to clean your car (both inside and out) about once every month. This will change on how often you drive it, where it’s driven, and who you drive in it (little kids will most likely mean it needs to be cleaned more often).
When winter rolls around, try to clean your winter gear about once a month. Heavy coats, scarves, gloves, and other winter gear should be laundered per instructions every month. It’s also a good idea to clean them right before you put them away for the warmer months.
