You probably spent good money on your purse. When you buy one, you look high and low for something with enough room, without being too big. You need pockets to keep things organized, and accessible spots for things like your phone and keys. So, how did such a great purse become a black hole, where its impossible to find things? You know it’s in there somewhere…right? Here are 8 ways to tame the black hole and make your stuff easy to find again.
1. Know When to Say “When”
Maybe you like to be prepared for anything on your shopping trip or at the movies (we know you NEVER sneak in snacks). But the adage, “you can’t take it with you” applies to your purse as well. Get rid of expired cards. Empty your change into a jar. Trash old receipts, gum wrappers, and makeup you’re unlikely to need. Can you leave your sunglasses in the car? Getting rid of stuff is therapeutic, remember?
2. Clip Your Keys
Your keys always tend to sink, don’t they? Pick up a cheap clip, so you can hook them onto your strap. They’ll always be easy to find! Even better if you can change out your big wallet for a smaller one that comes with a clip or loop on it. You can keep that from getting lost, too.
3. Sort Receipts
If you must hold onto certain receipts, at least organize them. Grab a little pocket file and create whatever categories make sense for you. Business expenses, gifts, clothing, etc. Use the same idea for coupons — just make sure you clean it out at least monthly, to get rid of the expired ones.
4. Get a Handle on Gift Cards
If you tend to save up your gift cards, use a small file or coupon organizer for gift cards and rewards cards. Since you’re unlikely to need these on a daily basis, there’s no reason to keep them all in your wallet. And if your smart phone can hold an electronic copy (many can), why keep the physical card on you all the time?
5. Break it Up
Say you bought the “perfect” purse, only to realize there weren’t enough pockets! Been there, done that. What’s a girl to do? Grab some cute little mesh bags or zipper cases for your cosmetics, lotion…any number of things. If you get different colors, you won’t have to open 3 of them before you find what you’re looking for.
6. Add More Function
Got a big purse that swallows all your belongings? Pick up one of these handbag organizers. There are tons of compartments and they come in all kinds of fun colors.
7. What’s Inside Really Counts
When you’re in the market for a purse, consider more than the print, the strap, or the number of pockets. What color is the inside? A lighter interior color will actually make it easier to find things than a darker shade.
8. Light it Up
Why not try a purse light? You can get a mini flashlight with a clip to attach to your strap, or find an actual purse light with a sensor that lights up when you reach inside. How cool is that?
