If you have lots of people at home, then making a filing system based on the family members. Have a folder for each person where they can store their homework, paperwork, notes, etc. It will help everyone stay more organized.
Also consider a filing system based on other needs that you and/or your family have. For example, lots of people organize their papers based on urgency, task, etc. If needed, customize a filing system that you’ll use and that will actually be helpful.
Invest in a wall mount for organizing your papers. This is great because it doesn’t take up any counter space and FORCES you to be organized because you can’t just set papers on the basket—they have to go into one of the slots.

A classic way to get your papers organized is by using a color coded filing system. Depending on how complex your system will be, you’ll have to determine the size of the organizer and the amount of colors needed. But colors are a quick and easy way to know exactly where everything belongs.
Plastic drawers are another way to keep the paper clutter under control. This is especially useful if you’re into scrapbooking and have lots of different types of paper and crafting supplies.
