Washing the outside of windows isn’t my favorite job in the world–so I like to get them done fast. If you agree, then don’t leave without letting me show you how to clean windows fast!

This method requires minimal ingredients you probably have on hand. Best of all, you’ll get those windows clean in fewer steps. Let’s clean windows fast!

How To Clean Windows Fast
We all want to be able to look outside — especially on a warm, sunny day — without seeing spots. There’s nothing worse than opening your blinds to check out your view, only to have your outlook dampened by dirty windows. Windows should be cleaned seasonally–or at least twice per year.
The problem is, cleaning your own windows outdoors is a pain. But hiring someone is a major expense. Instead, here’s the easiest possible way to clean the outside of your windows fast!

What You Need to Clean Windows Fast {For Outdoor Windows}
1. Homemade Window Solution
Forget commercially-made window cleaners. It’s really cheap and easy to make your own! Simply grab an empty spray bottle. Rinse it well first if it’s been used for something else. Then add:
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 tsp dish soap
Add water to the bottle first to lessen bubbling, then add the vinegar and dish soap. Gently shake it up. If you have a lot of windows to clean, you can use a bucket to mix up a larger batch of this cleaner. Just double or triple the recipe as needed.

2. Clean Windows Fast
Read the following procedure very carefully before you begin:
- Grab your spray bottle of your homemade cleaner
- Spray your windows thoroughly (be careful if this requires a ladder!)
- Wipe with a sponge
- Use your hose with a spray attachment to immediately spray windows with clean water
- Walk away
That’s right…just spray and walk away! This cleaner is streak-free, so you don’t need to towel dry or squeegee the windows to see clear, sparkling results. Simply let the windows air dry and be amazed!

I use this cleaner for everything!
I’m glad you like it! 🙂
What about for the inside of the windows?
Try this 🙂 https://organizationjunkie.com/2018/04/05/8-hacks-for-the-cleanest-windows-ever/
I’ve used this basic formula for years (1 part vinegar, 2 parts water and a tiny drizzle of Dawn) but never been able to rinse and walk away (we have extremely hard water in our area). I use it with an e-cloth brand waffle weave cloth (from their window cleaning set). Incredibly quick and easy with no streaks and a beautiful shine! I used flour sack towels and old t-shirts before with pretty good results – the e-cloth made all the difference for me.
Same here. Our water is incredibly hard and no cleaning formula works without a good rinse followed by hand drying or I’m going to see white spots for ages. I have an e cloth and absolutely swear buy it fom my windows
Can you rinse & walk away if you have hard water?
I have had good results adding either a half cup of alcohol or a little bit of Jet Dry. You may have to play with the amounts to see what works best with your water.
I’m just curious if this is safe for outside plants?
Thank you
For indoor windows I put 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup alcohol and a splash of dawn in a spray bottle then fill the rest with warm water. I know that a lot of people add cornstartch too but I have ever had the need to try it.
I used this just yesterday and was absolutely amazed!! I’ll have to redo two of my windows that I cleaned just last month because they already show dirt and streaks with the “other method and solution.” BTW, I was skeptical to see clean results without using a squeegee and chose to experiment – yucky. Don’t use a squeegee, follow the directions and it’s a miracle. I’m 67 years old and am proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! Thank you so much.
how about indoor windows
what about screens ???? i have some windows where to remove the screen is a pain…. can i just spray with solution, rinse and walk away ????
how about indoor windows
Would this work on car windshield because no matter what I do to my windshield look like something smeered all over it and get black sutty stuff even though I don’t smoke or no one else smoke in car either
It should work on your car windshield, yes 🙂
I tried this today and was truly amazed. It was cold outside and I hurried to wash, rinse and walk away. I had errands to do and windows were still wet when I left. They were absolutely clean and spotless. This is the only way I’ll ever wash my windows again. Thank you so much for this tip.
I’m so glad it worked for you! 🙂
