Have you ever run across one of those laundry emergencies? I don’t mean a stain or broken drain hose — although both of those could certainly be called an emergency. What I mean is one of those emergencies where you have nothing to wear. Or you have a last-minute date and realized your go-to shirt is in the hamper. When things like this happen, you want your clothes to be clean and dry as quickly as possible. Of all the life hacks for cleaning, this is one of the most important to have in your back pocket. Here’s a life hack that will help you cut down on the drying time for your clothes.
1. Use the Highest Spin
After your washing machine and favorite detergent have had a chance to do their job, your machine removes the water with a drain and spin cycle. One of the best ways to get your clothes to dry faster is to let your machine get rid of as much water as possible. This means using the highest spin setting on your machine, even if it takes a few minutes longer. The extra spin will cut down on the dry time, making it worth the bit of extra time.
2. Shorten Your Dryer Vent
If you’ve ever wished your dryer could get through that big batch of jeans a little faster, you’ll love this laundry room life hack. Pull your dryer out from the wall a little bit, and look at your vent hose. Is there extra tubing that curls around before it finally vents out the wall? If so, you can cut your dryer’s work time by up to 20% just by shortening that hose so it goes right outside without the extra looping. Just remove the clamp (there’s usually just one screw), but off the excess tubing, then clamp it back in place. This will allow the air to leave your dryer faster, taking the moisture from your clothes right along with it. Plus, you’ll save a few bucks on your electricity or gas bill. Can we call this cleaning life hack a win?
