Moving is stressful enough as it is, let alone without proper organization and packing. If you want to make it easier on yourself, packing up should be an orderly process done in gradual steps. Here are some hacks that are sure to make your next move a lot easier on you.

1. Keep Your Clothes on the Hangers

And keep them clean by sliding garbage bags over them. You can tie the straps around the hangers so that nothing slides off. Packing and unpacking your clothes will be a cinch.

2. Wrap Breakables in Towels

Both your towels and your china are moving with you, right? Why not cushion your breakables by wrapping them in your bath and hand towels, Other linens will work too. And you won’t have any nasty newsprint ink all over your nice dishes.

3. Avoid Spills

Any bottle of liquid will be subject to leaking after its packed. To prevent a mess, wrap the top in a plastic bag and tighten it with an elastic band before packing.

4. Color Code

Label each room with a different color, and then put a matching sticker — or duct tape — on each box. That way, even if you don’t label your boxes well (even though you should), you’ll at least know which room they all go in.

5. Slide Furniture on Towels

To avoid damaging your hard floors by dragging heavy furniture over them, put a dish towel under each leg and it’ll slide easily without scratching.

6. Keep Track of Expenses

Moving is expensive, but lucky for all of us, some of those expenses are tax deductible. Make a simple spreadsheet to keep track of it all.
