How to Remove Permanent Marker From Every Surface In Your Home

Uh-oh. You must know the feeling of coming across a felony crime in progress. That’s right: permanent marker already on — or being scribbled on — an important place where it doesn’t belong. Let me share some ideas about ways to remove permanent marker.

We've all done it before: marked up something with a permanent marker we didn't intend to. Now you can find some trick ways to remove it. Yes--remove permanent marker! #organizationjunkieblog #permanentmarker #cleanpermanentmarker

Maybe it’s your new kitchen cupboards, the bathroom wall, someone’s face, or Heaven forbid…the carpet. UGH. So you went right to your good friend Google and started frantically searching for ways to get the stain out. If this hasn’t happened to you yet, it will. But don’t worry — we’ve actually got you covered with proven methods for removing permanent marker from just about anything.

Ways To Remove Permanent Marker

1. From Clothing & Fabrics

And by fabrics, we don’t mean carpet or upholstery — there’s another tip for that. But if you’ve got permanent marker on your clothes, try hand sanitizer! Be sure to test in in an inconspicuous area first to make sure the hand sanitizer won’t do damage (it shouldn’t though). Rub, rinse, and repeat.

2. White Board

Someone mistook that Sharpie for an Expo marker, and now you’ve got a bunch of ugly black marks on your white board. Surprisingly, an eraser made specifically for dry erase boards might take this out (we know you end up using your hand or a tissue most of the time). Also, a rubber pencil eraser usually does the trick.

3. Walls

This one is sadly pretty common! When permanent marker somehow ends up on your walls — even though “nobody did it” — it’s time to break out the toothpaste or hair spray.

4. Wood

When some unknown person sneaks into your home and scribbles on your kitchen table with Sharpie, try some rubbing alcohol. Again, test it on an inconspicuous area first, but it should be fine.

5. Upholstered Furniture

Milk will actually take the stain out, but you might need to use a lot of it and make several applications. Soak a rag in milk — any kind of dairy milk — and rub the heck out of the stain.

6. Carpet

To remove permanent market from carpet, spray the area with plain white vinegar and then rub it with a wet rag. Test a hidden area first.
