Maybe you have pets….Maybe you had seafood last Wednesday. The reason doesn’t really matter, but if you have a bad smell in your home, guests are bound to pick up on it (even if you don’t) Here are some simple ways you can get rid of obnoxious odors and keep your home smelling fresh, even on the worst days.
1. Essential Oils
You can’t sprinkle essential oils all over your furniture and carpets — at least not without spending a gazillion dollars. But you can get an essential oil diffuser to keep things smelling fresh. And believe it or not, they don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.
2. Candles or Wax Melts
You might be worried about the fire hazards presented by candles (we worry, too!), but if so, look for wax melts that are specifically used with wax warmers (just put them in a jar). Or find your favorite candle and place it on a candle lamp. You’ll get all the scent without the flame.
3. Carpet Fresheners
You can find all kinds of scented carpet fresheners at your local supermarket or dollar store. They come in sprays, foams, or powders. Usually you spray or sprinkle it liberally, then wait a while before vacuuming. They can create marvelous scents that last for days.
4. Go Natural
If you’re willing to put in a little effort, you can make your own potpourri. You could also purchase or cut some fresh flowers for your living areas, bedroom, even the bathroom!
5. Eliminate the Source
Is there a forgotten garbage can in the basement? Does the can itself stink? Maybe your stove still smells like shrimp, or there’s a moisture problem in the bathroom. Walk into each room and take a sniff, then clean up any odor-causing issues. After that, you can use any of the methods above to make things smell great again.
