If you love to sew, you probably have about 16 metric tons of fabric on hand. Okay, probably not that much — but you get what I mean. You might feel like all that fabric is taking over your house, or at least your sewing space. Since getting rid of it probably isn’t an option, you’ve got to find ways to store it all. Here are 5 fantastic ways to store your fabric that can help you stay sane until you finish all those projects.
1. File It
No really! Using a file cabinet (you can probably get one cheap at a second-hand store), you can simply drape fabric over some slightly modified hanging folders. It’s easy! Check out this quick DIY for the low-down. Look how neat!
2. Make a “Bolt” Statement
Fabric stores are so well organized because they store in bolts. Well, why can’t you do the same thing? Get some stiff cardboard or project boards from the craft store, wrap fabric around it, and stack them neatly on a shelf. If these mini-bolts don’t appease your need for organization, I don’t know what will.
3. Skirt the Issue
You know those hangers with clips that are meant for skirts? They can keep your fabric organized and wrinkle-free in any closet. You can do the same with pants hangers — just fold it over.
4. Clear Things Up
Maybe you already store fabric in an old dresser with big drawers (neatly folded, of course!). But clear plastic drawers will help you see just what’s in there without digging through everything. Categorize by color or type.
5. A Neat Folding Hack
A big part of your fabric storage strategy (you do have one, right?) is folding. If you want to save space AND keep all your fabric super neat, try this folding method that will help you make room for more! Woohoo!
