If you’re a new mom, you probably spent a lot of time researching which stroller would best suit your needs. After you chose one, you probably spent a good amount of money on it. Strollers are meant to be a help in your life while you walk, run, shop, and generally live your life with a baby in tow. To help you make the most of it, here are 7 stroller hacks every new mom needs.
1. Prevent Tipping
You’ve been there. You lift your baby out of the stroller and forget you have a bag hanging on the handle. And just like that, the stroller tips over. To help balance it out, get some strap-on ankle weights and put them right above the front wheels.
2. Keep Baby Cool
When it’s hot outside, you want to pull your stroller’s shade down or use a blanket to protect baby from the sun. But you also worry about how hot it probably gets in there. You can help your baby stay comfortable by using a clip-on, battery-operated fan.
3. Add a Cup Holder
I don’t know if any stroller really has enough cup holders…especially for mom and the older kids. Good thing you can make your own with this shoe-hanger hack.
4. Give Fluffy a Ride
Are you done with your jobbing stroller? Convert it into a pet-friendly ride-along for a dog who might not get around as well as she did a few years ago.
5. DIY Stroller Toy Bar
Need to keep baby occupied? Give her something to do while she’s along for the ride. It’s pretty easy to make your own toy bar.
6. Get a Grip
If it’s rainy or you’re jogging on a more slick surface, the last thing you want is to take a spill and put you and your baby at risk for injury. Simply putting plastic zip ties around your tires will help you have a better grip on any surface. Now you’ve got great traction, just like the gym treadmill.
7. Carry More
Got a lot of stuff to carry? Headed to the farmers’ market? Grab a big utility bag and clip it onto the stroller, and you’ll be able to keep your hands where they belong — on the handle. There are stroller hooks made specifically for this purpose. Just make sure your stroller is heavy enough to handle it (see tip #1 and don’t do this with an umbrella stroller).
