It’s time to learn about getting a Cricut mat clean, and cleaning a Cricut. If you have a Cricut machine and you use it pretty frequently, you probably have the same problem a lot of Cricut users face: that cutting mat gets dirty, fast! Maybe yours is covered with fabric bits and tiny paper scraps. Maybe the kids used it as a placemat. Maybe you tend to eat crackers and craft at the same time. No matter the cause of the grime, cleaning your Cricut mat doesn’t have to be a big chore. Here are some cleaning tips that will help you clean it up before your next project.
1. What You’ll Need
Whether your Cricut mat is the light grip, strong grip, fabric grip, or standard grip variety, you will only need one simple tool to get it clean: a lint roller. But if you don’t have one of those handy, you can use some packing tape wrapped around your fingers. With a lint roller, you might go through a couple of them, depending how many sheets there are and how dirty your mat is.
2. What to Do
Peel the cover off your lint roller or wrap the tape around your fingers with the sticky side out. Now all you have to do is go over your mat from edge to edge. You might have to do each section more than once, so be prepared with an extra roller or plenty of tape.
3. Maintain the Stick
Once your mat is looking (almost) new again, you might be worried that it’s losing its stickiness. No problem! Just spray it with a little spray adhesive before you put the protective cover back on. This will help restore the stick so things don’t slide off while your machine is doing its thing. Clean and treat your mat this way regularly, and you’ll save yourself some money. And you all know what that means — more paper!
