If you’re wondering how to clean a leather couch, I’ve got the info you need. Cleaning leather makes many of us a little nervous, but with this information you can clean your leather couch safely–like a pro.
How To Clean A Leather Couch
There’s nothing better for lounging in comfort than a leather couch. But getting a leather couch can be overwhelming if you aren’t sure how to clean it safely. I’ve got good news thought–it’s actually easy to clean a leather couch yourself. Follow these simple steps to safely clean your leather couch and other leather furniture pieces.
Step 1: Vacuum
You should vacuum any couch regularly, especially between the cushions. The reason for this is because the crumbs and dirt that accumulate can actually cause tiny scratches in the leather. For your leather couch, use thin hose attachments to get the crumbs out of all those hard-to-reach spots.
Step 2: Use A DIY Leather Cleaner
Mix up an easy DIY solution to clean the leather. All you need for this DIY leather cleaner is:
- white vinegar
Combine equal parts water and white vinegar in a small bowl or bucket. Soak a clean rag in the mixture and then wring it out well. Don’t use the rag soaking wet! Wipe down all the leather surfaces–cushions, backrest, sides, bottom, etc.
Re-wet and wring out the rag as needed. If you prefer not to use vinegar, you can use a very mild, moisturizing all-purpose soap made for use on leather. Once you finish, rinse away any soap residue with a fresh rag dampened in clean water.
After the leather couch is clean, be sure to thoroughly dry the leather with a soft, absorbent towel.
Step 3: Moisten & Shine
You can always buy a commercial leather conditioner. But a great DIY solution is to combine equal parts white vinegar and linseed oil. Use a soft cloth to apply it to the leather surfaces in a circular motion. Let this DIY leather conditioner set overnight. The next day, use a soft, clean towel to absorb any excess and buff the leather to a beautiful shine!
