Step 1: Vacuum

You should vacuum any couch regularly, especially between the cushions. The reason for this is because the crumbs and dirt that accumulate can actually cause tiny scratches in the leather. For your leather couch, use thin hose attachments to get the crumbs out of all those hard-to-reach spots.

Step 2: Use A DIY Leather Cleaner

Mix up an easy DIY solution to clean the leather. All you need for this DIY leather cleaner is:

  • white vinegar
  • water

Combine equal parts water and white vinegar in a small bowl or bucket. Soak a clean rag in the mixture and then wring it out well. Don’t use the rag soaking wet! Wipe down all the leather surfaces–cushions, backrest, sides, bottom, etc.

Re-wet and wring out the rag as needed.  If you prefer not to use vinegar, you can use a very mild, moisturizing all-purpose soap made for use on leather. Once you finish, rinse away any soap residue with a fresh rag dampened in clean water.

After the leather couch is clean, be sure to thoroughly dry the leather with a soft, absorbent towel.
